A former substitute teacher in Texas has been arrested and charged with having an improper relationship with a student.
Angela Palmares, 27, was taken into custody after the Llano Independent School District reported the allegations to the Llano County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.
According to a letter sent to families by Superintendent Mac Edwards, the teacher had been communicating inappropriately with students through a social media platform outside of school hours. Palmares last worked for the district on April 2 and has since been removed from the list of available substitutes.
The sheriff’s office began its investigation on Wednesday. After interviews and a review of evidence, officials obtained an arrest warrant. Palmares was found in Bell County with help from the Texas Department of Public Safety Fusion Center.
Jail records show she is being held on a $150,000 bond. She faces a second-degree felony charge of improper relationship between an educator and a student.
School officials say they have contacted the families of students who may have been affected. The district said it takes the matter very seriously and is committed to keeping students safe, but cannot share more details due to privacy laws.
